This set of oil paintings are part of my ongoing series inspired by the 8M protests in Ciudad Juárez. The figure, with her face covered and her sign raised high, becomes both witness and symbol, amplifying the voices so often silenced. The handwritten quote in Spanish, displayed like a banner, is not just protest, it’s poetry, rage, and memory. I use vibrant purples and pinks, the colors of the feminist movement in Mexico, to both soften and intensify the image. Through this work, I aim to preserve the emotional charge of that moment and reclaim public space through portraiture.
With this series, I wanted to bring forward the reality of what an 8M protest actually looks like, not the distorted version often shown in the media. Rather than focusing on sensationalism or destruction, I center the human presence, the messages, and the quiet strength of collective resistance. This work gives voice to the silenced and reflects the intensity and urgency of demanding justice in a place marked by femicide and systemic violence.
